On Saturday May 11th and Sunday 12th, King’s Lynn Town are repeating their popular regatta but making it bigger. Our Mayor has asked the club to organise the regatta on behalf of the town. At the moment we are aiming at 4 sprint races and some fun-races. Saturday will repeat last year’s popular layout of 3 fixed-seat, open and handicapped races for Ladies; Gents and Mixed. Sunday will first see a single time-staggered start race based on boat-handicap followed by a series of short, light-hearted races using corn-shovels instead of oars to celebrate the town’s history with a resurrection of last century’s “Corn Shovel Races” (shovels provided!). You will find a DRAFT schedule of regatta events below (mainly to show HW times and start/finish approximations). The town will also be celebrating their annual Hanse Festival, so it should be a great weekend whether you want to compete or just take in KL’s history, food & drink, parades and music. I have included a ‘Competing Crews Social Events page below and another a couple of website links to the last Hanse/Regatta.
We have secure storage for your boats (including pontoon for overnight) and plenty of very reasonable accommodation locally. If you are at all interested, email us your application (forms below). We recommend you you commit early as accommodation will be at a premium on the run-up to Hanse and there is a maximum of 10 craft for each single start (not the Sunday Staggered Start.)
(text of email to distribution list of interested competitors)
What we need from you: An email confirming your interest and how many and type of Coastal Rowing craft you would wish to bring. (Send no money yet)
A quick summary of the event(s)
We have 3 handicapped races on the Saturday; Ladies, Men and Mixed, the first race starts at 10am
We have 2+ races on the Sunday;
A Staggered Start sprint (competitors will be called to start depending on their boat’s handicap); a bit like the GRR
A novelty ‘Corn Shovel’ race from our pontoons to the Ouse Booze where a pint of Ale will be collected. (Shovels Provided)
Visitors can arrive Friday from 9am to 12pm to launch and leave their craft at our pontoons overnight. We have secure facilities to leave cars and trailers at our Docks (Security Guard 24hrs) + workshop in necessary.
We have a very good social calendar for the weekend, including The town’s Hanse celebrations and hosting (with entertainment) by the Ferry Lane Social Club. Links: “Ouse Booze”, Facebook, EDP, Deepdale Backpackers
We have specified a max of 10 boats on the start line and we are rapidly hitting that number; hence this email. Too many boats will not be an issue as we will just do 2 starts for each race with 5 minutes between (we just need to bolster the staffing at the Race Control!!) All other details can be found and downloaded from our website.
We very much look forward to welcoming our visiting teams as, being a fairly new club ourselves, it is nice to be able to repay the hospitality that other clubs have shown us at their events in the past.
